Women of a Certain Age: On Fire

October 5th - October 26th
Opening Reception October 5th 5-9PM

This year's Women of A Certain Age theme is women on fire, from finding our voices to voicing our passions.  Visitors to the Opening reception at the StutzArtSpace gallery will enter the gallery through a faux fire gateway.  Two fire dancers will hold performances throughout the night.  There will also be some audience participation pieces.

Visitors to the opening reception will be asked to write negative words, those things holding us back,  on special paper.  When this paper passes through the flame of a candle is vanishes. Visitors will also be asked to participate in creating a collaborative fiber art piece which when completed, will be given to the Pink Ribbon Connection.

This will be the second year that the Women of A Certain Age have paired up with the Pink Ribbon Connection.  Last year the women created a special calender to raise money for the Pink Ribbon Connection.  This year these wonderful women have asked me to create a piece for their exhibition.  Half of the proceeds from this piece will go to the Pink Ribbon Connection.  This piece will also be reproduced in limited edition art print postcards.  All the proceeds from these cards will go to the Pink Ribbon Connection.

The StutzArtSpace Gallery is located in the historic Stutz Building at 212 W 10th Street Suite B110 Indianapolis, IN 46204.  www.stutzartists.com

2012 Raymond James Stutz Artists Open House

I would like to formally invite you to the Annual 2012 Raymond James Stutz Artists Open House.  Below are some questions and answers about this event. For more information please visit www.stutzartists.com.

What is the Stutz Open house?
The Stutz Open House is an annual event held every April. This event is a fundraiser for the Stutz Artist Association Residency Program in order to give free studios to a few emerging artists for an entire year.  It started out a few years ago with just a few artists inviting their friends and patrons over for a small party and has now grown into a two day event with around seven thousand people attending every year.  This year there will be over eighty artists participating as well as many businesses.

What are the dates and times for the open house?
This year the open house will be Friday April the 27th and Saturday the 28th.  The doors open Friday at 5:30PM and close at 10:30PM.  On Saturday doors open at 2:00PM and close at 7:00PM.

Where and what is the Stutz Building?
The historic Stutz Building is located in downtown Indianapolis at 1060 N. Capital Ave.   The building is so huge it takes up a whole city block.  It is between 10th and 11th Streets and Capital and Senate Avenues.
The Stutz building is a historic car factory in downtown Indianapolis.  The Stutz Motor company produced many different types of cars including racing cars at could be seen during the Indianapolis 500.  Today many businesses and artists call the building home.  However, there is quite the car collection that fills up a special car room on the second floor as well as scattered throughout the building.

What all is there to see and do at the Open house?
There are over 80 artists who will have their studios all neat and tidy with artwork on display for purchase.  There will also be musical entertainment throughout the building including jazz musician Cynthia Lane.  There will also be some activities for the kids on Saturday.
In the StutzArtSpace Gallery on the first floor of the building there will be the “One Peek Show” which is an art exhibition that features on piece of artwork from every artist participating in the open house. The “One Peek Show” Opens on April 6th from 5:00 to 9:00PM and runs through the end of the month and it will also be open during the open house.  This is a great way to preview which artists you would like to visit first.

What kind of artwork will there be?
The Stutz building houses the most artists in one location in the Midwest.  This means there will be lots of art and lots of different kinds of art.  There are painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelry makers, textile and fabric artists, artists who work with steel and other heavy duty metal, furniture makers, and many more.   Prices of artwork can range from $10 to $10,000.

Where is your studio?
My studio is E-340 on the third floor right in the middle of the E building.  Upon entry to the open house you will receive a map of the entire building with the location of all the artists’ studios and businesses.  It is a very big building and lots to see and there will be many volunteers placed throughout the building to help you find what you are looking for.

What will you have new this year?
I have been busy creating some smaller works on paper and on canvas this year.  To get a preview of my work please visit my website www.bonniefillenwarth.com.  You can also see my works in progress on my blog bonniefillenwarth.blogspot.com . And if that is not enough, you can like me on Facebook and follow me on twitter @BonnieStzE340.

How much does it Cost?
Tickets cost $12 the day of the event.  They are $10 in advance form Old National Banking Centers or the Stutz Business Center Office (317)488-7373. On Saturday, kids twelve and under will receive free admission with a paying adult. Also, Saturday re-entry is $8 with the previous day’s ticket stub.

Will there be parking?
There will be plenty of parking available.  There is street parking all the way around the building and specially marked lots for this huge event, and best of all it’s FREE!

Can’t wait to see you there,

                                                                                                Bonnie Fillenwarth

Can’t make it this year?
I have opened a shop on Etsy this year.  Etsy is an online marketplace for people selling handmade items.  This is a great way to keep up with my newest works and make easy purchases through Paypal. www.etsy.com/shop/bonniefillenwarth

Google Art Project

This is an image of the Acropolis from the New Acropolis museum in Athens.  This image was taken from an exciting new Google product, Google Art Project.  They have gone around to major museums and taken pictures while the museum is closed.  You can take a tour of the museum step by step, zoom in and out.  You can also view simple images from their collections.  This museum sits a few blocks away from the famous hill and is angled to match the Parthenon.  The ground floor has windows in the floors in the floor where you can see archaeologists digging up finds from the foundation of the building.  I was so excited to hear about this and even more so that the Acropolis Museum was included.  When I visited Athens a few years ago the museum was not yet complete.  Now I can visit it, the MOMA in New York,Chicago, Amsterdam, and a whole bunch more any time I want.

I've been very busy in the studio the last couple weeks.  I have been getting some inspiration from my old Art history and Archaeology Books.  I had 4 of these classes one year which meant I spent a big portion of the year learning about Pompeii.  The city plan has always stuck with me.  Pompeii was buried by the ashes of a nearby volcano in 79AD.  Another ancient city plan I am fond of is the city of Knossos on Crete.  This bronze age city was the inspiration for the maze that the Minotaur lived in.I've been super busy listing items on Etsy and getting ready for the Raymond James Stutz Artists Open House in April, so be sure to check back often.

10 Yards

Its just about Super Bowl time.  The artists at the Stutz have been very busy working on a very special exhibition for the Super Bowl.  It is called "10 Yards".  This name comes from football. It takes 10 yards to gain a first down in the game.  But you do not need to be a football fan to enjoy this exhibition.  The ten "yards" in this exhibition refer to 10 different locations around Indianapolis which include:

  1. Bishop Chatard neighborhood
  2. Broad Ripple
  3. Canal
  4. Children's Museum
  5. Eagle Creek Park
  6. Fountain Square
  7. Irvington
  8. JW Marriott
  9. Monon Trail
  10. Stutz Building
The Opening reception is Thursday February 2nd from 5-9PM.  The exhibition is open until February 24th.  Gallery hours are 11-2 Monday- Friday.Find out more at www.stutzartists.com

Below are a few of my latest Etsy listings.  Right now, this is the only way to purchase my artwork online with a simple click and filling in your address.  All Etsy transactions go through Pay Pal so they are secure.

This week has been mostly smaller pieces on paper.  This is a challenge since I am usually working on large canvases.  These pieces may be smaller, but they still carry my love for bright vibrant colors.  I am still going strong with listing one new item a day. To keep up with my daily listings follow me on Twitter and Facebook.

Busy Busy Busy

Everybody wave to Jannetmarie!

Last week at the studio was a very snowy one which meant I spent a lot of time working.  I finished a piece for an upcoming show called 10 Yards. I am going to finish two more on Monday.  Here is a in progress picture.  To see the final piece you'll have to stop by the opening reception for 10 Yards at the StutzArtSpace on February 5-9PM.

I've been keeping up with listing one item a day on Etsy which means I will be out of small pieces too add to my shop soon. This week I think I will start on some small pieces that will be mated in 6x8.  This week on Etsy was all about small paintings on canvas boards and my pinkscale pieces.  Below are a few pieces that I listed this week in my Etsy shop.

Artwork makes a wonderful gift for Valentines day. Roses, candy, and dinner reservations get pretty boring, mix it up with giving your loved one an original piece of artwork.
